The Mountain Area Radio Reading Service of Asheville, North Carolina is a radio reading service for individuals who are blind, visually impaired or otherwise print impaired. Volunteers read local news and events from the Asheville Citizen-Times, the Mountain Express, the Black Mountain News, the Hendersonville Times-News and the Transylvania Times News. Eligible individuals are issued special radio units that are pre-tuned and easy to operate. MARRS provides an integral service by broadcasting this otherwise inaccessible information about the Western North Carolina community. To fill out the day, we also provide readings of national newspapers and publications including: The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, the Christian Science Monitor, USA Today and People magazine, among others. This additional programming is provided by radio reading services from New York(InTouch Network) and Kansas (Audio-Reader). MARRS broadcasts 24 hours a day 7 days a week via a sub-carrier of public radio stations WNCW-FM 88.7 and WCQS-FM 88.1.
